Payroll giving allows you to make regular donations that come off each pay and automatically receive a tax credit of 33.33c for every donated dollar. Regular donations like this are important to CanInspire as they allow us to plan ahead with confidence, ensuring that we can keep providing people experiencing illness, trauma and loss, and their support networks, with a creative outlet in a supportive environment.
What is payroll giving?
Payroll giving is a scheme introduced to New Zealand in 2010, and administered by employers, allowing employees to make regular donations to approved charities. As with other donations, you are entitled to a tax credit of 33.33c for each dollar donated, however, instead of having to wait until the end of the tax year to receive the credit, 33.33c for every dollar donated is credited to your pay at the time of donation.
You can find more information on the IRD website.
Who offers payroll giving?
As payroll giving is still quite new in New Zealand, not every employer offers it. Just ask your Manager or HR representative if it is available in your workplace.
Any organisation which electronically files its employer monthly schedule and deduction form with the IRD can offer payroll giving to its employees.
